As users and potential users of library and information services become increasingly accustomed to new technologies at home and in the workplace, they will come to expect customized systems and services to meet their diverse and often complex information needs. They will expect services to provide visual representation on easy-to-use systems. Users will also need information services to meet their specific cultural and individual needs. Three main challenges may be identified: 1. overcoming barriers to information flow across boundaries, 2. educating and training people to provide the information services and systems needed, and 3. getting involved in setting the right priorities, encouraging wealthier countries to develop information policies and provide the resources needed to build and strengthen the less developed countries.
